Students have been unable to meet freely with their peers for over a year. It is no secret that many students are having trouble connecting with one another and with their emotions. In their physical education classes and advisory classes students need to have the opportunity to connect with one another as well as with the course content. Often times an icebreaker or a social emotional connection can help at the beginning of a PE lesson or on it's own as a social emotional lesson.
This project will allow organic conversations and social emotional learning in the physical education classroom and beyond. The thumballs will help students to be fully present during whole group circle time with the physical act of tossing the ball and since each student will get their own question when it is their turn. The games will allow students to interact in small groups in a student centered way. The question cards will help to prevent social emotional learning in the classroom from becoming stale. And, the stacking games are great for students to interact with one another without even the need for conversation. All of these supplies will help to facilitate connections and confidence in students who have been missing out on social interactions through a year of COVID-19. Let's help them get their confidence back.
