First grade is the most exciting grade level because it is when you learn how to apply your kindergarten skills and truly begin to LEARN HOW TO READ! My students typically come in sounding out 3 letter words, knowing letters and letter sounds, and by the end of the school year, they are reading picture books and even chapter books!
A huge part of learning how to read is listening to fluent readers read. My students do that through listening to me read at Storytime (one of our favorite parts of the day), and through the listening center.
This year I would love to provide headphones to all of my students so we can continue to grow our reading skills while not sharing germs with shared headphones. :)
