In my physical education class, the lack of available fitness equipment for students to use, hinders them from full engagement and participation in the course. My class is focused on getting students the opportunity to be exposed to different types of physical activities, that way they will be able to establish consistent practices for a healthy adult lifestyle. COVID-19 has exacerbated ongoing struggles within our school environment.
As the pandemic plagued our community with economic hardship and distance learning, our high school has struggled in obtaining new equipment to replace existing resources that are dilapidated and unrepairable. For my classroom, I am requesting a total of seven (7) sets of a cornhole game and three (3) 10-pack sets of reusable water bottles. The cornhole game does not take much skill, but is fun to play and teaches lessons such as teamwork, agility, coordination, and throwing. In addition, providing reusable water bottles to my students will incorporate green conscious practices when taking care of their health.
These supplies will help my students strengthen their interpersonal and interactional skills as distance learning for the past school year has stymied their confidence in communication. By donating to this project, we will not only increase student participation, voice, and attention but it will help with their overall mental health and social well-being. Building confidence through physical health education will lead to 鈥渟trong bodies, and strong minds鈥 with consistent practices that will carry well through into their adult lives.
