Before I can address the academic loss from last school year, it is essential for students to feel safe and acknowledged. The beginning of the year is focused on establishing our class bond through productive team building activities.
This special project will allow my students the opportunity to meaningfully collaborate with the goal of creating a unifying class shirt that is representative of them.
Just like sports jerseys or club shirts, our class t-shirts will be worn with pride and the feeling of belonging to something greater than themselves. This will translate into more collaboration and participation in future class activities. I believe students will wear their shirts with great joy knowing that they were a part of the process to create the final product.
The cricut will initially be used for the class t-shirt designs and will later be used for future STEAM projects, creating manipulatives, and classroom organization/decoration. The tie-dye will be used on our class t-shirts, each bin of dye will have a different question for students to have conversations with their classmates while tie-dyeing their shirt.
By providing my classroom with these materials, this class will begin the new school year with a fresh start and a strong bond.
