With these Allons-y Magazine subscriptions, my French students will be able to read about current global events in their target language. This supplemental literary resource will not only grant them access to hands-on, age and level appropriate, primary accounts of the Francophile world- it will encourage their love of reading in French. As our classroom and curriculum return to in-person learning, it is becoming very clear that students have experienced physical, emotional, and social isolation. Although this donation will provide us with both digital and print versions of the magazine, we will primarily use it as a non-digital discussion platform with the help of printed dictionaries and conjugation books. In small groups, students will translate different articles from French to English, discuss their content, and the present it to their classmates.
It will open their minds to deeper learning techniques only found through reading, and open their eyes to real-time cultural and geographical knowledge that will inspire their thirst for the human connection we all need right now.
