My students are delayed in communication, social/emotional behavior, learning, and independent functioning. The primary part of instruction is done through play. Young children learn through play. My classroom has a House area for pretend play, block area for building and creating, art area for creative expression and writing, sensory tables for using the 5 senses to explore items, and a book center for reading. The one item missing is a doll house! This is a staple in any early childhood classroom. A doll house with furniture and families that represent what their family looks like whether white, Hispanic or black, would provide an opportunity for my students to play together socially while role playing appropriate actions and language which are primary goals in our classroom. Many concepts can be learned during this kind of play like taking turns, talking about different family members and the roles they play in a home, day and night, furniture in a home and what it is used for and many other things. Unfortunately, our school does not have the funds to replace old, used classroom materials much less buy new items. My kids need and deserve this classroom staple for learning through play. We would be so grateful for any help in getting these materials. Also, all items will come from an educational vendor where it is made to last so your gift will benefit many kids for years to come. Thank you for your consideration!
