Flexible seating and a homey environment help students thrive. My goal is to make students, ALL students, feel welcomed, safe, and happy in my classroom. When students feel comfortable in a classroom they feel safe and secure. This builds a classroom community that encourages growth and success.
Flexible seating allows students a sense of independence and provides them with choice. This gives students a sense of freedom and makes learning fun. Currently, my classroom has round cushion seats, low stools, and wobble cushions. These were GREAT in my second grade classroom the last 3 years, but I am moving up to 5th grade and need some more options. The high stools will be awesome choices for my future 5th graders! Allowing students to choice will give them a sense of excitement and willingness to work in a variety of ways. In addition, a homey classroom is going to make students feel invited and engage them in a new way. I chose a sunflower theme this coming year to bring happiness into the classroom in a simple, beautiful way! Sunflowers represent strength and joy which I plan to instill in my classroom community.
