Through opportunities to build a classroom government, students will begin to take ownership of their environment and whole group decision-making. Leaders will emerge but all students will have a chance to have a voice. This project will provide students with markers, poster board, and canvas used in monthly teamwork opportunities and assignments. Some of the supplemental projects will be book studies or connect to science and social studies standards.
Supplemental projects will be guided by student interest and will be centered around a decision-making model that students will build and lead.
My experience has shown that students are more likely to be engaged and gain a thorough understanding of learning outcomes when they have opportunities to guide their own learning and make connections to their own lives.
