The writing center in my classroom serves as a wonderful focus area for my students to gain skills in writing, doodling, and drawing. By supplying these tools, my students will be engaged allowing for fine motor skills and emergent writing skills to be developed, to be able to make the connection that print is all around them, and to provide a wonderful place for them to be creative. My students love the writing center, they are excited about what they create and can't wait to share their work with their families.
With these new additions to the writing center, my students will be able to choose from a variety of tools allowing them to develop pre-writing and drawing skills and to communicate their ideas through drawing and through print. As my students write and create, they will see themselves as true authors and illustrators, reinforcing the vocabulary we use in the classroom. They will develop skills that will enable them to be successful and prepare them for kindergarten and beyond.
