Our school is planning to return face to face next school year. In our community, an area we're always trying to improve is parental involvement. We serve a low income community and parents aren't always able or available to come into school to visit class or attend parent nights.
I am requesting a working Samsung tablet. Through an app called ClassDojo, we've been able to keep in contact with our parents, and our students use the tablet to take pictures, videos and write messages to their parents about different things we do in class and around the school. The app functions similar to Facebook, except that students can only interact with their own parent on the app, or the parents can interact with the teacher. A code is also required for students to use the app on the tablet so there is no unauthorized use.
The use of the app on this new functioning Samsung tablet allows children to take ownership and be proud of what they're learning! It also gives them more incentive to try in school (if they can complete their work, they can take a picture or video and send it to their parent, for example). Many of the parents of my students only make it to school a few times a year. Some of the students' parents never make it to class, but almost all of them use the app. The use of the app and ability for students to share things makes the parents feel closer to the class and more "in the know" about what's going on with their student in school. We also use the tablet for reading time using book apps. Unfortunately our Apple iPad is no longer functional due to it's age, which is why we need a new one. Thank you so much for your consideration!
