Our classroom has students with specific learning needs related to autism, ADHD, and Sensory Processing Disorder. The fidget items we are asking for will support our students by providing them with manipulatives that will engage them and provide sensory input.
Here are some examples of the items requested and how they will support student success. Pop-its, squish balls, etc. are examples of the requested fidget items which will be available to students in our classroom calming corner or for students to use at their desks. Some of the items like the motion bottles offer calming visual opportunities. Alternative seating such as the therapy ball and comfy, floor seats, provide students with seating that they can move on to use up undirected energy or as a peaceful space within the calming corner. The visual countdown timer will assist students who are developing transition skills with a visual reminder.
