A flexible seating classroom allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. At the start of each day, they choose a location in the classroom that works best for them. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as a kneeling table, a table with wobble chairs, and traditional 4-person tables. A student that makes a choice based on what they need or want is a motivating opportunity. Over the course of my teaching, I've noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. We learn about self-regulation and how this plays a part in our learning. When given a choice on where to learn, they are empowered to make good choices and are more engaged in their learning.
Flexible seating allows my students the opportunity to be more engaged, productive, organized, and responsible in their learning. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The floor rockers will not only address the sensory needs of a fidgety student, but they are a fun choice! The wobble cushions are versatile and will allow students to sit at a desk in a chair or on the floor. The beanbag chair will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. The lap desks are lightweight and can be easily used either on the couch or the floor rockers. The knee pads can be used at a kneeling table or for a student who likes a little extra cushion at the carpet.
I have seen first-hand how choice can positively affect my students. I want to thank you for taking the time to read through this project. Cheers!
