Our school is implementing the "You Can Fly" curriculum to get our students on the path to a career in an aviation related field. This course provides the foundation for advanced exploration in the areas of flying, aerospace engineering, and unmanned aircraft systems. Through this course students will learn about engineering practices, problem solving, critical thinking, and the innovations and technological developments that have made the aviation and aerospace industry what it is today. Students will discover where the aviation industry started and the path it has taken to become an integral part of everyday life.
The first year of this program is a STEM exploration class where students will get hands on experience with designing and building many different projects including, but not limited to, hot air balloons, circuits, parachutes, and an activity in learning to use a rivet tool, which is crucial to aviation mechanics. We will be using many materials that could pose a hazard to students if they came in contact with the student's eyes so safety goggles will be an integral part of most of our projects. Most of these items will be utilized by students year after year thereby reducing the cost of the overall program.
