Students at FMS began caring for six baby chicks during the summer of 2019. We took them to the farmers' market on the weekends for the community to learn about raising chickens through our Chicken Club.
The chickens live in a courtyard that hundreds of students pass by every day. The club members, appropriately named "The Chicken Tenders", are trained on chicken care and act as ambassadors for the school. They host advisory classes in the chicken courtyard giving tours to show how to raise/care for chickens.
The fencing and shade sails will secure the courtyard during the advisory class visits, protect the chickens from regional predators, and provide shade from the midwest sun during long summer days.
