These items will be used in the classroom to learn mathematical concepts with hand-on materials in project-based lessons and play. Materials will be used in small group settings and available throughout the day for students to choose for independent play.
An exciting element of being a Montessori teacher is to watch as a child chooses a manipulative and learns through their own curiosity and play! Students enjoy building with geometric shapes to create animals or houses. They begin to notice that shapes are everywhere, in the ceiling tiles, the bricks on the wall, even the floor.
They have so much fun finding items to weigh and see what may be heavier or lighter. When measuring, students begin to see the room in a different way, all of a sudden everything can be taller or shorter.
