Currently we do not have the materials for our population of special need students, which consist of students with Autism, Intellectual Disability, etc. We have students that have sensory processing disorders as well, which impacts communication among other things. Our students benefit from accommodations and adjustments such as lighting in the room, which we lack at this time. They benefit from visual schedules, which we could hand make in a timely manner if we had the materials to do so at our dispose. We currently use the color printer in the library for any social stories, hand made assignments, visual schedules, etc.
Our "babies" are unique and deserve the best education and to create an atmosphere for a positive learning experience would be the ultimate win. When we need to have materials laminated for them to last for each individual student we usually do them one sheet at a time, which is time consuming, so we take them to the library as well. For the upcoming school year we are not sure how many students will be learning at home, but our population of "babies" learn better with hands-on materials . The curriculum we use and the assessments we must give the kids come out so much better when we can show actual data we collected by taking pictures of them performing a task. We could use the printer, laminator and the accessories with it to support instruction and to make the learning experience less stressful for "our babies". The lessons we aim to teach and that we currently teach is geared toward teaching them to advocate, independence, social skills, communication, etc.
