Materials from this project will be used to establish a Chess Club at N. High School. The overall goal and purpose of the club is to give our students an opportunity to enrich themselves through learning. Additionally, we want to meet students at every level of learning of the game of chess. One of our priorities is to be inclusive. Anyone who wants to learn and compete, is welcome in the N. High Chess Club. Our hope is that it grows and becomes something that the students can take pride in being a part of.
We want to be the best chess school in the State and we have the students to do it. I might be biased in my opinions, but the students at N. High are highly motivated and have the ability to make this club into something special. This funding will go to establish a library of chess books for the kids to learn about the game and some classroom chess sets.
As this club grows, our hope is to add more materials to continue to foster this enrichment activity. If we are successful in funding, this project will give a portion of our student population a place to link them to our school community and with that a shared experience that will last a lifetime.
