We will welcome our fall incoming 10th grade students with a backpack filled with school supplies so that they feel an immediate sense of belonging in our school. We will also set them up for success.
Having a gift of a backpack filled with school supplies will help them feel welcome and participating in an activity where they write and post post it notes where they share their personal experiences with racism, hunger and a sense of belonging will help them participate in an activity that explores their identity.
This will let them know that are in a school that values communication, honesty and identify. This activity will be a way for students to see if they have shared experiences with other students in their community and be a way to build community and explore topics of racism and inclusion. The will be able to write how they feel joining our community in a post it note to share with the other students. They can share how they feel initially when the day begins and also share how they feel at the end of the activity and hopefully the students will feel happy to have this gift and also overjoyed to join our school community.
