My students are always looking for a new book to fall in love with.
The English teachers in our building work hard each year to cultivate socially and culturally relevant texts to add to our classroom libraries so that students are exposed to a wide range of titles, authors, and stories.
Our students come from various walks of life, but we lack the wider, natural diversity that converges in settings less isolated than ours. By creating classroom libraries with diverse characters and life experiences, we encourage our young readers to see the world from a view different from their own. And in that act, we hope that they begin to expand their ability to empathize with their fellow humans.
