Some of the most abstract concepts in middle school science are atomic structure, molecular structure and cell structure. The atomic model will help students in small groups visualize the key vocabulary needed to understand the abstract concept of an atom and its structure. The molecular models I have selected will allow students to construct models using atoms that can be referenced and constructed both in the classroom and at home. The 3D/4D plant and animal cell models will give students a reference point to compare the structure to the function of the organelles.
These models will give all of my students an anchor for the required scientific vocabulary needed to investigate in their labs.
