My classroom is filled with a richness in diversity and culture. The scale of our classroom diversity ranges from that of English Language Learners, Hispanics, South Americans, and Black Americans to White Americans, Muslims, and more. As an educator, I have the privilege of teaching my kindergarteners not only to read but to love reading and writing. We are a classroom that focuses on diversity as well as the similarities among us as a class. I am requesting diverse books that will help them grow as readers, writers, thinkers and speakers!
It is my desire to teach, during distance learning as well as classroom learning when we return, with children's books that promote and represent the diversity of ALL my students as well as cultures within our country and the world.
Although I will use these books for instruction in on-line videos and meetings, they will eventually be housed in the classroom library so that all students have access to read and reread them. In turn, my students will also have the ability to take them and share with their families.
Students and their families will be able to see themselves and their cultures represented in books. These books will increase access to the cultural wealth of different individuals in my classroom.
