Every year I teach the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. It has been a success in my classroom because of the various discussions that can be had around the themes and actions of the characters.
Who is the real monster? The graphic novel is such an excellent tool to get the students engaged in the text. If used with the novel it really helps students understand the text. In addition, the graphic novel opens up the discussion about different interpretations on source material, which is a common core standard.
I love using graphic novels in the classroom to get students to interact with classic texts. It would really help to have a class set. I usually have to use a doc camera and project the book, which doesn't work that well and students can't interact with it.
