This project is special because it will allow students to access books that will help them see characters like them in stories. Many times the characters all look the same, and the students do not feel connected. However, these books will allow them to put themselves in the book and see how they do matter! They will be transported to different regions of the world that most would never have the ability to do so without them. They will be able to see that life is not defined just by their place and that people who look like them can be successful, no matter how they look! Not only will these books allow them to see themselves in books, but they will also show them that it is okay to be different and that different is beautiful. They will get to see that there are people in the world who do not look like them, speak like them, or even have the same day-to-day actions. It will allow them to truly explore different cultures and see things from multiple different perspectives! The world would be such a boring place if we were all the same, and I want them to learn that in an environment safe and respected.
