Since the start of the pandemic, my students have not been able to partake in hands-on experiences. With a lei garden, students will be able to safely interact in an outside setting using gardening tools and apply what they learn in the classroom. Why a lei garden? Leis are part of the essence of Hawaii and are strongly tied to the local culture. Students will learn about the different flowering and nonflowering plants that are used in lei-making. They will also learn about the cultivation, care, and history of these plants as the year progresses.
