Executive functions are mental skills people use to organize and manage their lives. Using social stories about different aspects of executive function in conjunction with gentle support and classroom guidance can support students in developing their own skills towards independence.
For young learners, it is crucial to make early exposure to literacy fun and joyful. I have used the alphabet teaching tubs in a past school with much success. Aside from being very fun and high-interest, my students had more success with identifying letter sounds by using the hands-on materials. They especially loved helping me "clean up a mess" when I mixed the items up and had them put them in the correct tub. Although they were disappointed when I mixed up the b's and d's, they had so much fun fixing my mistakes!
