At this time I must choose between splitting my screen to show my instructional materials and my students, or just viewing my instructional materials. With a 13-inch monitor on my laptop, splitting the screen makes it challenging to see either clearly, so I frequently must choose to view my materials and risk missing the look of confusion on the face of a student who just needed one more example or another means of explanation.
A second monitor would allow me to focus one screen on my students and the other on my instructional materials, allowing me to read my students' faces as I challenge them to give their best.
