The items I am requesting are going to be used throughout the school year in order to have my students work on more hands on activities while they are in my class. I teach both geoscience and chemistry to students that have holes in their understanding due to some loss of learning due to the pandemic.
With these materials I will be able to start building an arsenal of supplies that I can use year in and year out for geoscience and chemistry. Students are able to best pick up on material when they are able to work with it, see it in action, or practice the material in a number of ways. With this project I will be addressing NGSS standards PS1-2, PS1-6, ESS1-1, ESS2-5, and ESS3-4 through different labs and activities.
In Spring 2020 until Spring 2021 students were forced to complete their science courses online. Although there are many great simulations available nowadays, nothing compares to when students are able to work with manipulatives and complete actual labs. For Geoscience, the Standing Wave Demonstrator will help students visualize and create their own waves. The Rock Cycle Lab and Kit Rock Cycle Activity will allow students to work with an actual experiment that showcases the movement of rocks through the rock cycle and let them review the material they learned. The Energy Games will let students review and practice the content they learned in regards to alternative energy resources. For chemistry, the Chem Game Cubes will allow students to regularly review the principles of atoms which builds on itself for the entirety of the school year. The Molarity Lab gives students a chance to complete titrations and see how concentrations of solutions and vary properties. This material is also able to be used for future students.
