Learning a foreign language has substantial benefits for our students, especially as our world becomes more globalized. Learning to communicate in a different language improves brain health, expands job and career opportunities, and develops empathy by having a lifelong ability to connect with others from other countries and backgrounds.
Languages are learned through stories, whether written or told. Students love learning French through stories but oftentimes don't have the opportunity to do so due to a lack of class resources. Having access to authentic French children's books adds purpose and life to the language learning process. Students can make connections, challenge themselves to be storytellers, and indeed retain the language by connecting to characters' experiences, fictitious or otherwise.
My students need and desire to have more books in their classroom. Thank you for adding to their classroom library!
