Many of our students and their families have been financially impacted by COVID-19. In the past our band program has required our students to pay out of pocket for each reed and bottle of oil they have needed in order to play/participate. We charged around $2.00-$3.00 for each reed for all woodwind students. Because our band program is only funded with fundraising, we cannot afford to provide them on a regular basis. When charging for each reed many students would play on bad reeds for too long, or avoid getting a new one all together to avoid paying for a new one. With this grant, I will be able to provide students, grade 6-12 with enough reeds to last through this year and the start of next, free of charge.
