When students see people that look like them in books they feel more connected to the school and, of course, more interested in reading! Donations to this project will help us purchase several books with a range of diverse characters that more closely represents our the rich diversity of our students.
Representation helps strengthen a student's sense of self and connection to school. It has been shown to improve social/emotional well being and academic outcomes for ALL students. Students who are already represented in many children's book will also benefit from seeing a more varied representation of people of all shades, abilities and orientations. Children thrive when they see all different kinds of people represented positively in the world.
