School can be challenging socially and emotionally. Add to that, the challenge of learning at home for over a year with precious few hours of virtual instruction, and you have a situation in which capable, motivated students have fallen behind or lost their confidence. Even the most confident will be nervous starting at a brand new school.
The peace corner is a powerful and touching space in the classroom that supports self regulation. It鈥檚 called the 鈥減eace corner鈥 because there is something peaceful about simply being allowed to experience our feelings and take care of our self in the way that is right for us. The use of a peace corner can transform the culture of the classroom.
The Oberman Sphere and perpetual motion machines will be used as breathing tools. Since we all need different things at different times, there isn鈥檛 one magic thing that students practice in the peace corner. Students will be able to use a variety of calming tools and techniques explore things on their own and get a sense of what works best for them.
The peace corner supports the mental, social and emotional health of students as they learn to take care of their feelings and help their brain be ready to think and learn again. Once students can reconnect with their inner knowing, they can go on, and be ready to rejoin the group. More importantly, students will learn to take care of their feelings and become more reflective in all aspects of their lives
