My project is for the purchase of a range of flexible seating options for my math classes. The majority of my students are on some type of accommodation plan, either 504 or IEP. Many self-report that they need to move about the room or wiggle to help them stay focused on the lesson. Currently, that might be in the form of pacing at the back of the room or standing at the side cabinets.
Kinetic learning can lead to stronger retention. My students tell me that when they can move about, they are more focused on the lesson because they aren't dwelling on the struggle to sit still. The use of flexible seating options would allow them to move about at their seat and be less distracting to the other students. I have requested a variety of options, because just as my students are unique, so are their accommodation needs.
