I'm planning to create STEM stations or areas in my classroom. My students can go here during "Genius Hour" or during their "Early Finisher" time to explore and let their curiosity pour out!
I believe students learn best by doing. This is why I'm a full supporter of STEM projects because they act as a way for my students to explore their curiosity and share their learning with others.
The students will have a choice board that they can pick from and use the STEM materials to build and create something to answer the prompt. For example, the prompt that the student might pick maybe, "Build a parachute that you think might be the most efficient in protecting an object when dropped from a high level." Another prompt might be, "Create a house or building structure that you believe will protect it from natural disaster and write to explain why you believe the structure you've built is successful in the goal of protecting the individuals inside of it from a natural disaster."
I also love building a great classroom community where instead of me doing all the teaching, the students can also teach me and their classmates what they've created or learned through their experience.
