These books will be taught and analyzed in a 12th grade English Language Arts classroom. Both stories focus on the lives of African American individuals who have been unjustly treated in our country. As we read these books together as a class, students will have the opportunity to analyze important issues such as racial identity, diversity, and social justice. Students will engage in a variety of lesson activities, including exploring how the issues related in these stories apply in their own lives. Students will reflect on how they can promote a more just and diverse future.
