STEM education has been a focus of schools and school districts for years. One of the main obstacles to the successful teaching of STEM is authentic, hands-on learning. The eighth graders at our school will use engineering design software to design, test, and improve upon a bridge structure, utilizing the engineering design process.
Here鈥檚 where you can help: These structural engineering kits will allow eighth grade students to take their learning out of the virtual world and into the real world. With the guidance and instruction from their science teachers, they will build the bridges they have designed in the engineering design software. Students will create and test their product and measure it against their virtual design.
The science teachers will collaborate and co-teach this exciting STEM project in which students will research, design, and ultimately build their own bridge structure. With all classes in the district currently being taught remotely, the bridge building kits will offer our eighth graders the authentic, hands-on learning they so greatly need and deserve.
