During this unprecedented time, my students, families and I have embarked on a distance learning journey. Over the school year we have found that our students (ages 3-5 years old with special needs) are more engaged in activities when they have individual materials in hand at home. Our students are able to participate in virtual class times longer when they have a sensory item or fidget in hand.
Because of this, we plan to start a Dinosaur theme (which our students have shown a great interest and excitement over) and incorporate sensory activities into the Dinosaur theme to engage our students.
Sensory bins are versatile and can be applied to many preschool academic themes. They not only support sensory exploration, but also increase language opportunities, foster play interactions and simply make learning more fun.
We need separate sensory bins, rice, and dinosaur figures to complete the sensory activity materials. We would also like to expand our play dough and kinetic sand play to help develop the student's fine motor abilities.
Please help me bring a piece of the classroom into our student's homes.
