As we all know, we have entered times that we haven't experienced, for many of us, in our entire lifetimes. This has caused educators to have to think outside the box in order to keep their students engaged. Whereas an interesting worksheet would have once sufficed, now I need computer graphics with bright colors and interesting concepts to even get my children interested in the idea of online school. I find myself having to compete with Youtube and PBS Kids, which is ok, but in order to do that, I need a functional device. I pride myself in interactive assignments that my students and I can work on in real time, but I find myself getting less of an opportunity to do those kinds of activities because the computer freezes, shuts off, or overheats.
When schools initially closed in the Spring, we worked hard to make sure all the children had a device to go home with. At the time I was using my own personal computer and it was doing the job. Unfortunately, with the time spent on it and the extra work it has since had to put in, it is on its last leg. I reached out to the school, and although they are working on getting new devices, I am on a waiting list. I don't want my children to have to suffer because of that.
I am reaching out to you in hopes that you will consider my young kindergarteners. My lead teacher and I have gotten to a point where we get the majority of children to log on everyday and we don't want this to stop. Kindergarten is a very formative time, and we want to make the most of it. I thank you in advance for your consideration and generosity.
