Students will use these items to bring the stories they are reading in my class to life. Due to Covid-19 students are not allowed to share items in the classroom so there are limitations to their ability to use their creativity. These limitations leave them mainly working with computers all day. While I know the students are taking advantage of all the possibilities that middle school has to offer, I want to go above and beyond for their learning. Students crave the ability to demonstrate their learning in creative ways that show off not only their English language arts skills but also hidden talents. Computers offer many things but being creative is not one of those things.
These individual supplies will be used to assist in creating visual aids for the skills we are practicing while maintaining safe procedures during this time. While we read these stories we discuss the settings, character traits, and various skills that assist in comprehension of what they are reading. Students will be creating brochures for the settings they are reading about while incorporating themes, figurative language, and art along with posters showing off how they envision character appearances while analyzing character traits that further develop the story. These activities allow students to also demonstrate grammar and handwriting practice that everyone can see. This capability will further their education beyond reading and answering questions on a computer. It will bring the stories to life.
