Right now, more than ever, it is crucial that we focus on ways to provide moments of connection, safety, joy, regulation, and normalcy to our kids. Games can act as a regulatory tool to help kids (and adults) cope with stress. Games can support kids in practicing patience, communication, sharing, problem-solving, teamwork and regulation skills. 鈥淭he 鈥榮uperpower鈥 of humankind is our capacity to connect; it is regulating, rewarding and the major 鈥榬oute鈥 by which we can teach, coach, parent, heal, and learn.鈥 - Dr. Bruce Perry Positive human interaction and playing games activates our brain鈥檚 reward centers, which helps us to 鈥渇eel better鈥 both emotionally and physically. Playing games with loved ones allows kids鈥 stress and worry to diminish in a developmentally appropriate way, while also building on connectedness with family/friends. Help me in providing activities that kids can do with their family members at home during these chaotic and unpredictable times. Lastly, during these stressful times, many kids are forgetting to just be kids. Playing games can be a great way to remind children that their main priority is to have fun, spend quality time with loved ones, and take a break from the computer screen!
