During this time of social distancing - I would love for my PreK students to be able to experience the feel of a book in their hands. We are so far apart during library storytime that it is difficult to properly share a book with them.
I want to purchase board books that can be held, touched, and loved by my students. I will divide the books up and let each child have a few books to enjoy and hold in their hands during their library visit. The books will be taken up and disinfected before using it again. I chose board books so they can be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after use.
More than three-quarters of our students come from low-income families. Many students don't have any books in their homes. Reading is rarely modeled in their homes. It is so important to establish an early love of books and reading.
