The classroom carpet is a common meeting place for students and the teacher. Concepts are introduced and practiced. Stories are heard. Thinking takes place. We can gather around something new and explore it together. It's that one special place where everyone feels welcome and everyone knows that something new and exciting is about to take place! The carpet is a home inside a classroom, fostering learning and creativity.
The students in my classroom will have the opportunity to have a place where they can all comfortably come together for our special time during the day.
Community is so critical in developing confident, capable learners. By having a classroom carpet, the students will have a chance to get out of their chairs and come together to learn up close and personal!
Many of my students lack language, social and cooperative play skills. Through dramatic play, students will be able to play together and increase these skills. During their play time, students will be able to learn to listen and respond to one another. They learn new words for the materials, the experiences and each other. This is also a great area for students to learn how to express their feelings.
This kitchen center will offer many opportunities for the teacher to model and give chances to improve the students' social emotional skills.
