Seating for students of such varying sizes has been a constant challenge. I had chairs that were too big for my younger students, so I lowered the tables and they have been sitting on carpet tiles on the floor, but they are falling apart. Stools are the perfect in-between. Stools will also be beneficial for students who are physically challenging for them to get up and down off the floor. In the past, students in K-2nd came in and sat on a rug to listen to a book or have a group meeting before going to the work tables, but after several years, it wore out too. A new rug with designated sit spots and sturdy stools will help everyone be comfy, safe, and successful in the art room.
Having sturdy stools at our work tables will allow students of all sizes to sit safely and comfortably while creating masterpieces. They are space-efficient and easy for students to move. A new rug and sit spots will help students come in quickly and quietly. It will also help us utilize all the space in the art room for whole group projects as well as small groups and centers. In the second semester, many classes will be rotating to different stations to practice different art and life skills. Learning to cooperate, problem-solve, and develop fine motor skills throughout the pandemic has been challenging. These items will help us tremendously to work on those skills in a safe environment. Thank you so much!
