There is growing research supporting the effectiveness of mindful movement and other mindfulness strategies on student wellbeing. In an ever-changing world, educators need to grow their "toolbox" of strategies to support social-emotional learning, just as we do for academic learning.
As we anticipate the return of students to our physical buildings after many months of virtual learning, there will likely be an increased need for these social-emotional learning strategies. The Breathe for Change trainings will license me to teach yoga to students and staff and provide me with concrete strategies for supporting social-emotional wellbeing. The virtual trainings will take place on evenings and weekends in January through June 2021.
With this license and certification I will be able to offer staff wellness opportunities to practice yoga, offer yoga to students in classrooms and small groups, provide professional development, and grow my toolbox of strategies to support students in their most difficult moments. Providing these wellness strategies to students will help them learn to self-regulate, understand their emotions, and feel empathy toward others.
