My students need opportunities to use language in a variety of ways. I have found, making "social stories" with my students, is a creative and powerful way of connecting them to written language while also reinforcing new skills. New skills, need to be practiced successfully many times, in different settings, before they become a part of our lexicon. Children love seeing themselves in a book sharing with a friend, or waiting for a turn.
When students can see pictures of themselves, in a book, playing with others, keeping their hands to themselves, participating in lessons, they are able to literally "see" themselves being successful!
