These drums will add to our growing collection of classroom instruments. Playing instruments together develops students' cooperation, listening, and critical thinking skills. Drumming is also particularly linked to lowered stress and anxiety levels.
These drums will be used by students to echo rhythm patterns using critical and active listening, learn different playing techniques, practice both leading an ensemble and following a leader, accompany their own singing, and improvise and compose new music.
The repertoire we will explore while playing them will help students gain an appreciation for the musical cultures and people of Africa and the Caribbean.
