My high school students with dyslexia have come a LONG way towards developing strategies and using tools to overcome their reading challenges and perform well alongside their peers, BUT the one barrier remaining for them is accessing text when it is provided on paper or in a physical textbook without a digital option. Access to a scanner pen reader will make all the difference for them!
My students will be able to read WHATEVER text is put in front of them without having to rely on someone to read things aloud to them. When they go out to restaurants, they will be able to read menus. When they are practicing for the "real world" (opening bank accounts), their reading disability will not stop them from accessing the information they need. This is a tool for life that will build independence for years to come.
