My students are an active group of children with a variety of sensory needs. Our special education school recently opened and we have limited resources for our therapy room. Sensory mat tiles will provide tactile input and help improve visual motor skills such as matching same style tiles and connecting pieces together. The dizzy disc will provide a variety of movements to help satisfy my students' need for motion in various positions. Some of my students crave deep pressure input. The spandex material will be used individually and in groups to provide calming deep pressure and also help my students' improve body awareness. A crash pad will satisfy both deep pressure and vestibular sensory needs. Roller racers will give students an opportunity to improve upper extremity strength and bilateral coordination. Physio balls in a peanut shape are easier for therapists to use with our students versus the sphere shaped balls. A small air compressor will help keep therapy balls and other inflatables in optimal condition for immediate use. A therapy room with a variety of resources will provide my students with an array of sensory regulating activities. For my students, movement is essential for learning. After receiving sensory input my students appear more attentive for classroom tasks that require them to be seated at their desks.
