As students in low-income areas, my students don't typically have access to up to date materials. They instead are forced to read old worn-out books that are of no interest to them anymore. Working through a classroom novel study is an amazing opportunity for students to learn through practice. As we read stories together my class is getting extra practice on important state standards so that they can be successful. Having access to new nice books that have never been used can make a huge difference in how kids feel about reading.
