The Apple iPad Mini that is in this project would go a long way towards helping me as an Adapted PE Teacher and all of the students with disabilities that I service. Many of my students use a Token Board system where they earn tokens for displaying the appropriate behaviors and then they earn a reward once they receive enough tokens. A strong reinforcer for most students is the iPad and the things they can do on it. I have seen students do things that they normally would not because they knew they were working towards a reward of using the iPad for a few minutes. Having this with me at all classes would increase their willingness and ultimately their success in demonstrating healthy activity patterns by participating in physical activity which is Nevada Academic Content Standard 3.5.2 for Physical Education.
The iPad would also come in handy for all of the students that need to be qualified for Adapted PE services. And this year in particular because of COVID-19 there are extra kids that will need to be qualified because at the beginning of this year we had not seen any of the kindergarteners or the 1st graders in person. The iPad would definitely make using our new electronic assessment much more user friendly and efficient.
I also think the Virtual Reality headset would be another amazing reward that my students would like working towards. It would provide a neat stimulation that they would really enjoy! It would also help with Nevada Academic Content Standard 1.5.4 for Physical Education which is demonstrating safe practices while participating in physical activities because this would be a fun alternative activity for some of the students that remain safer when not in the middle of a crowded activity.
