My students already struggle to grasp concepts in their learning. They have challenges that most of us don't deal with. Having concrete math manipulatives like fraction tiles and circles, base ten blocks, multiplication dice, Folding Geometric Shapes. Math Balance, Money Kit, Geoboards, UNIFIX Cubes, and tangrams helps my middle school students understand tough math concepts. This builds their confidence and gives them hope that they can tackle grade level work. The Time Timer MOD Dry-Erase Board With Timer and Dry-Erase Unlined Boards will allow all students to show their work. The time timer is extremely helpful for my students with disabilities in executive functioning.
Recent research on math and mindset by Jo Boaler of Stanford University stresses the importance of providing our struggling learners with more opportunities for making sense and making connections. This is exactly what manipulatives do in mathematics. And right now my math classroom is lacking this help!
